Used throughout Asia for thousands of years, Acupuncture helps to prevent, treat, and heal the many ailments of the mind, body, and spirit.
Today, we use this Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) not only as a preventative treatment but to broaden the scope of treating the entire problem: root, manifestations and symptoms. Based on holistic philosophy, one ailment may affect other parts of the body that the patient may not even realize. In TCM, we address the entire body, not just the isolated problem.
Acupuncture works by manipulating the body's Qi.
Qi is the life force or "energy" that runs in every living thing. When it is circulating properly, we feel balanced and healthy. If the Qi becomes blocked, stuck or deficient, it causes pain, disfunction or disease. Using techniques such as Acupuncture, we manipulate the Qi to restore balance and health. This approach considers the body as a whole for both diagnosis and treatment. It emphasizes the strengthening of the body and immune system so that the patient can overcome the disease or disability with their own organic resources.
We use disposable, one-time use needles that are sterilized and stainless steel and are comparable to the thickness of a human hair. The needles are inserted into acupuncture points, located in anatomical landmarks throughout the body, which correspond to different meridians (pathways) in the body. These meridians are in charge of running the Qi smoothly from organ-to-organ, system-to-system.
The World Health Organization lists many diseases, symptoms, or conditions for which acupuncture has been proven to be successful. The following is a partial list of these conditions.
Cupping is an ancient Traditional Chinese Medicine technique to loosen tight muscles, bring better circulation and blood flow to those areas of concern. The cupping effect is produced by using heat to create a suction action within glass or ceramic cups (or using air suction) that are placed on the skin. The cups can be left in place or moved along the affected area. This technique is used to relieve back and neck pain, muscle stiffness and spasms, and rheumatism. Cupping treatment can even help clear congestion from the common cold. Cupping is soothing, gentle, and very relaxing. Marks left from the cup varies in color depending on the areas affected and how severe the ailments are.
Guasha means to “scrape the skin.” It is an ancient modality that has been recorded since the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). Guasha is a medical modality that uses a blunt, smooth object and repetitive strokes along the skin to create a temporary ecchymosis (or bruising) which fades in 2-7 days depending on the patient’s health condition.
Guasha helps with lymphatic drainage, blood circulation, qi circulation, relaxes and soothes muscle tension as well as emotional releases. Guasha helps to get rid of metabolic waste stuck in your tissues allowing for better nourishment of your body.
Guasha is also used whenever a patient has pain associated with an acute or chronic disorder, or when there is an aching or knotty feeling in the muscles. It can be used to similarly treat and prevent the common cold, flu, bronchitis, asthma, as well as any chronic disorder involving pain, congestion of the flow of qi and blood.
